So, what role has the Belgian Football Association played down through the ages? Which of our venerable stadiums have stood the test of time? Which personalities, still alive today, played an enviable role for their country or their club? Where has the copper trophy been hiding in recent years and, above all, what dit it truly represent? And how is Jean Marc Bosman doing these days, the player who created a seismic shock in the football worldt in days gone by?

This book does not set out to record the highs and lows of the Royal Belgian Football Association's 125-year existence but rather to showcase a compendium of photos and comments concerning the king of sports. What heritage remains, tangible or otherwise, of this extensive period? This was the goal of the fascinating research that my brother Filip and I carried out over recent months, in every corner of the country, from Knokke to Arlon and from Overpelt to Chimay. A pilgrimage that was a blend of exciting encounters and stunning photos, taken by my brother.

This grand tour looks at both pro and amateur football, taking in Brussels, Flanders and Wallonia, as well as the eastern provinces, recording for eternity the surprising images and the tales of the men and women, Belgian and others, who have burnished the image of Belgian football on and off the field. A wonderfull mix of players, coaches, managers, referees, and other football addicts.

Have we sinned by omission? That is perfectly possible because this book focusses not just on the key events or the most emblematic personalities over these 125 years, but on elements that bear witness to this long period, with stories that are sometimes positive and sometimes less so. They too are part of this footballing heritage and collective memory. Our selection criteria were to meet and interview these people and explore stadiums and objects steeped in history. Football is shaped by these emotionally-charged stories.

I would like to thank all those, whether famous stars or minor figures, who have contributed to Belgian football's splendour and authenticity, from the young ginger-haired Irishman who introduced football to the college at Melle right up to the current generation of Red Devils.
